Obsidian Flames arrived in 2023 as a standard set within the Scarlet & Violet era, continuing Pokémon's established release cadence. This period marked a shift toward digital-first game mechanics and updated artwork styles that reflected the series' modern visual direction. The set represents a pivotal moment in the trading card hobby when mainstream interest remained strong and competitive play shaped set design. Absol ex appears here as a striking Dark-type card, capturing the Pokémon's distinctive look with its signature horn and sleek form. The ex mechanic has long appealed to collectors for its premium positioning and powerful gameplay presence. Absol itself holds a devoted following among trainers drawn to its mysterious, ominous character design—making this card a natural target for fans seeking contemporary representations of the species.
