The 1998 Pokémon CD Promo glossy set represents an early chapter in the Japanese trading card boom, released during the franchise's explosive growth in its home market. These promotional cards were distributed with CD purchases and other media, making them accessible to collectors while remaining distinct from standard booster releases. The glossy finish and promo designation have made these cards fondly remembered by longtime hobbyists who lived through Pokémon's cultural phenomenon. Mew, the legendary psychic-type and number 151 in the National Pokédex, carries special significance as the rarest and most mysterious Pokémon. Its appearance on promotional cards only amplified its appeal to collectors seeking complete sets or hunting for iconic artwork. This particular release captures the character that defined early-era Pokémon collecting for an entire generation.
