Fossil was the fourth expansion released for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, arriving in 1999 during the franchise's explosive early years. The set introduced fossil-themed Pokémon brought back to life through scientific means, blending the emerging TCG mechanics with Generation One's beloved roster. Fossil remains a cornerstone of first-edition collecting, representing the era when Pokémon cards transitioned from niche hobby to mainstream phenomenon. Ditto's shapeshifting nature made it a fascinating subject for card designers, and collectors appreciate this Pokémon for its unique mechanics and iconic status in the games and anime. Early Fossil printings are sought after by those building complete sets from the game's formative years, when production was limited compared to later releases.
