Garbage Pail Kids made a triumphant return to mainstream collecting in the 2020s after years of relative dormancy. Topps' 2022 Book Worms set capitalized on renewed nostalgia for the irreverent brand while introducing the parody concept to a new generation of collectors. The set demonstrated that GPK's satirical humor remained relevant and that there was genuine appetite for the brand's characteristic blend of pop culture references and absurdist art. Ella Phant exemplifies the set's playful approach to reimagining familiar figures through the GPK lens. The card's clever wordplay and cartoon artwork reflect what drew collectors to Garbage Pail Kids across decades—the combination of wit, visual creativity, and good-natured irreverence. This particular entry remains popular among those building Book Worms sets and GPK enthusiasts who appreciate the franchise's enduring comedic sensibility.
