Garbage Pail Kids experienced a major resurgence in the early 2020s as collectors rediscovered the brand's irreverent humor and artistic tradition. The Book Worms series tapped into the revival moment, bringing the iconic satirical aesthetic to a new generation while honoring the franchise's legacy of clever wordplay and detailed illustration. Topps' 2022 release demonstrated sustained collector interest in GPK's deliberately outrageous subject matter and hand-drawn character design. Sam Sprayed exemplifies the set's playful grotesqueness through its punny title and exaggerated artwork. The card's appeal lies in its blend of gross-out humor and technical artistry—a hallmark of the GPK brand that attracts both longtime fans and newer collectors discovering the series. Variations like 22a generate interest among completists building comprehensive set collections.
