Garbage Pail Kids emerged in 1987 as Topps' irreverent answer to the massive trading card boom of the decade. The series became a cultural phenomenon by pairing crude humor with vibrant artwork, offering collectors an edgy alternative to mainstream sports cards. Kids and adults alike sought out these cards for their parody nature and bold satirical commentary, making them one of the most talked-about sets of the era. Fletcher Stretcher exemplifies the set's darkly comedic approach to familiar concepts. The card's grotesque subject matter and eye-catching illustration represent exactly what drew collectors to the series—shock value combined with genuine artistic appeal. Fans of the original Garbage Pail Kids run continue to seek out individual cards from this legendary set, recognizing them as authentic artifacts of 1980s pop culture.
