SkyBox Marvel Masterpieces arrived in 1993 as a landmark release that elevated trading cards into the realm of fine art. The set featured painted artwork from established illustrators, departing from the standard photography-based designs that dominated the market. This approach helped legitimize cards as collectible art objects and attracted audiences beyond traditional comic book fans, making Masterpieces a defining release of the early '90s trading card boom. Puma represents the set's comprehensive coverage of Marvel's deep roster, capturing a character whose agility and feline nature lend themselves beautifully to painted illustration. Collectors appreciate Masterpieces for its artistic quality and broad character selection, making individual cards like this one appealing both as standalone artwork and as part of completing the full painted gallery.
