Ancient Origins arrived in 2014 as a bridge between X and Y era sets, marking the later stages of that generation's competitive standard. The set is remembered for introducing diverse Pokémon across multiple types and introducing memorable trainer cards that shaped the meta. It represented a period when the TCG maintained strong collector interest alongside serious tournament play. Baltoy, the ground and psychic-type, appears here as part of the set's supporting cast—a Pokémon with genuine utility in certain deck archetypes. Collectors appreciate the artwork's appealing rendering of this unusual dual-type, and the card maintains steady interest among those building complete set collections or pursuing their favorite Pokémon in all printings.
