Team Rocket's Japanese debut marked a pivotal moment in Pokemon TCG history, introducing the franchise's iconic villains as playable characters. Released in 1997, this set captured the anime's most controversial arc and became legendary among collectors for its bold departure from traditional Pokemon cards. The Japanese version remains highly sought after, establishing foundations for how the TCG would explore darker themes and alternative storylines that continue influencing set design today. Grimer, the toxic sludge Pokemon, exemplifies the set's edgy aesthetic with artwork that emphasizes its grotesque charm. This particular card draws collectors interested in Team Rocket's full roster and the early Japanese releases that predate Western availability. Grimer's presence in the set represents the range of Pokemon the villainous organization could command, making it a valued piece of this historically important collection.
