Team Rocket marked a bold departure from earlier Pokémon TCG releases, introducing the franchise's first villain-themed set in 2000. Rather than celebrating trainers and their partners, this set explored the darker Team Rocket organization, featuring corrupted and shadowy takes on familiar creatures. It became an instant classic, capturing collectors' imaginations with its edgy aesthetic and remaining one of the most sought-after sets from Pokémon's initial boom period. Mankey appears here as one of Team Rocket's roster, rendered with the set's characteristic menacing style that contrasts sharply with the cheerful original base set portrayal. The fighting-type Pokémon's aggressive nature made it a natural fit for the villainous theme. First edition copies of Team Rocket cards hold particular appeal for collectors pursuing complete sets from this culturally significant release.
