EX Sandstorm arrived in 2003 as part of the EX era that redefined competitive Pokémon TCG. The set introduced powerful Stage 2 Pokémon and high-HP EX cards that demanded strategic deckbuilding, marking a shift toward more complex gameplay. Desert-themed Hoenn Pokémon dominated the set, creating a cohesive aesthetic that remains visually distinctive among early 2000s releases. Wingull represents the foundational support cards that made the era function. As a common Water-type, it served as both an accessible pull and a practical inclusion in water decks, with artwork capturing the seabird's characteristic flight. Collectors value these humble cards for their role in the set's ecosystem and the nostalgic appeal of early Hoenn era designs.
