EX Sandstorm arrived in 2003 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's expansion into the EX era, a period that fundamentally shifted competitive play and collector interest. The set introduced powerful EX Pokémon with elevated stats and attack costs, reshaping deck-building strategy. Sandstorm became a cornerstone set for players seeking viable competitive cards while offering collectors the appeal of newly designed mechanics and fresh artwork from this transformative period in the TCG. Lotad, the Water-Grass Pokémon, appears here as a humble Stage 1 evolution starter. Collectors appreciate foundational cards like this one for their role in established evolutionary lines and their charming depictions of early-stage Pokémon. Its presence in Sandstorm connects to the broader appeal of the set's creature designs and nostalgic value for players who built decks during the early 2000s.
