Panini Contenders was one of the final flagship releases before the company lost its NBA license in 2019. The set balanced accessibility with premium appeal, featuring creative ticket-themed designs and strong rookie card representation. Contenders became a collecting staple during this period, bridging casual and serious collectors with its mix of autographs, parallels, and innovative card stock choices. The LeBron James card represents one of basketball's greatest players during his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers. Collectors gravitate toward Lakers-era LeBron cards for their significance to his legacy, and Contenders versions appeal to those building sets from this final era of Panini's NBA production.
