Panini Select emerged as a premium modern release, combining clean design with a focus on on-court imagery and selective parallels. The set represents a particular moment in basketball card collecting when Panini held NBA licensing, offering collectors an accessible entry point to quality releases without the extreme chase elements of ultra-premium products. Select became known for straightforward presentation and solid rookie card representation. Kevin Durant's rookie card from this set captures one of basketball's most transcendent talents at the beginning of his professional journey. Collectors pursue Durant rookies across all premium sets, as his career trajectory and statistical dominance make his early cardboard particularly sought after. This particular release remains a cornerstone piece for Durant collectors and those building foundational modern basketball card collections.
