Findings

Signer
Cole Turner
Autograph
Signed directly on the card, front side
Handwriting
Matches the known signatures it was compared with. (8 known signatures)
Printed or copied?
At this resolution the ink shows natural density variation along the strokes, with heavier down-strokes and lighter tapered ends. No halftone or dot pattern is visible. The signature sits over the faint repeating logo pattern of the autograph area without obscuring it in a printed way. Placement is in the designated autograph window, which is normal for this product rather than a sign of facsimile. A photo cannot confirm live ink, so this needs physical confirmation.
Decision
Authenticated by Crown Grading after staff review.

FeatureThis cardKnown examplesResult
Overall form and proportionsCompact 'Cole' (hooked C, tall looped l, small e) followed by an abbreviated 'Turner' with a dominant T and a compressed, wavy 'urner' tail. The same two-part structure appears in R1–R8: a short hooked C, tall l loop, small e, a large T and a compressed wavy remainder.Match
Slant and baselineModerate right-leaning uprights. The baseline rises slightly to the right.Similar lean throughout. Baselines run from flat to slightly rising (R2, R6, R8).Natural variation
Letter constructionC is a short open hook. The l is a tall narrow loop and the e a small closed eye. The T is built as a Z-like down-stroke joined to a long crossbar. 'urner' is reduced to rounded humps ending in a small loop. The same Z-like T construction and reduced 'urner' appear in R2, R3, R4, R5, R6 and R8. R1 and R7 show the same forms, though the images are fragmented.Match
Connecting strokes'Cole' is written fluidly with a joined l–e. The T crossbar is a separate sweep. 'urner' is largely continuous.Same connection pattern, with the crossbar as a separate or partly joined sweep, in R2, R4, R5 and R8.Match
Starting and ending strokesQuick tapered entry on the C. 'Turner' ends in a small curl or hook at the right.Tapered C entry and a small terminal hook or curl are seen across references (R2, R4, R6, R8).Match
Line quality and speedSmooth, confident curves with no visible tremor, hesitation or blunt stops at this resolution. All references show fast, fluent strokes of comparable quality.Match
Pen pressure patternSlightly heavier on down-strokes and lighter on the upper crossbar sweep, in blue felt/paint-type ink.Similar pressure modulation in R2, R5 and R8. The pen type looks comparable.Natural variation
SpacingClear gap between 'Cole' and 'Turner'. 'Turner' is tightly compressed.Comparable inter-word gap and compressed surname.Match
FlourishesA long T crossbar rises to the right and arcs over the rest of the surname. The long rising crossbar is a hallmark in R1, R2, R4, R5, R6 and R8. It is shorter in R3 and R7.Match
Placement and sizeSigned in the lower clear/patterned autograph window of a Wild Card Matte Premium card, spanning most of the window width.R2, the same Wild Card Matte product, shows the same patterned background and similar sizing within the window.Match

Measurements

Software traced the ink and measured it against the known examples. The shaded band is the signer's normal range across those examples; the gold marker is this card.

Our software measured this signature against six clean reference signatures from Cole Turner's 2022 autograph cards. The main shape measures all sit well within his normal range: slant of the upright strokes, overall writing angle, and height relative to width. Ink travel, stroke thickness variation, closed loops and number of separate strokes also fall within his range, though those are more affected by photo quality and pen type. Every measurement came out normal and none was flagged. The numbers support the visual finding that this signature fits how Cole Turner signed in 2022.

Examiner notes

Our card is a 2022 Wild Card Matte Premium Autograph, signed in Cole Turner's pre-draft and rookie period. All eight references are 2022 manufacturer autograph releases (Leaf Pro Set Draft, Wild Card Matte, Leaf Draft, SAGE High Series, Leaf Flash). Era is effectively identical, so there is no career drift to explain. The remaining variation comes down to pen, surface and signing speed.

How Crown authenticates autographs: the signature is compared with known examples gathered from Crown's own authenticated cards, independent authenticators and public listings, measured by software, examined by an AI forensic model, and signed off by Crown Grading staff. The decision above is Crown's.
