Fossil was the third set released for the Pokémon Trading Card Game in 1999, arriving during the peak of the initial collecting boom. The set introduced fossil-themed Pokémon and mechanics that expanded the game's strategic depth. Fossil remains iconic for capturing that early era when Pokémon cards were still novel and highly sought after, before the market matured. Its holofoil cards are particularly memorable to collectors who experienced the franchise's explosive growth firsthand. Gengar's inclusion as a holo rare makes it a centerpiece card from Fossil. The psychic-type ghost Pokémon has always held special appeal for collectors, and this vintage depiction showcases the character's mischievous nature through classic 1990s illustration style. Collectors prize Fossil holos for their historical significance and the nostalgic connection they represent to Pokémon's formative years.
