Gym Challenge marked a pivotal moment in the Pokémon TCG's evolution in 2000. As part of the second generation of English releases, this set introduced the Gym Leaders as central figures, deepening the connection between the trading card game and the beloved video games. The 1st Edition printing became instantly collectible, establishing a collecting tier that enthusiasts still prioritize today. Lt. Surge's Rattata captures one of Kanto's most recognizable gym leaders alongside his signature Electric-type partner. The card's artwork and design reflect the set's commitment to bringing the game world to life through character-driven cards. Collectors are drawn to this card both as part of the coveted 1st Edition run and as a representation of an era when gym leader Pokémon cards were central to the hobby's narrative.
