Gym Challenge arrived in 2000 as one of the most celebrated expansions of the Pokémon TCG's early era. Named after the beloved gym leader mechanics from the video games, the set introduced cards featuring Koga and other iconic trainers leading their signature Pokémon. It remains a cornerstone release for collectors who experienced the original trading card boom firsthand. Koga's Pidgey captures the nimble Flying-type as it appears under the gym leader's command. Like other Pokémon Gym Challenge cards, it bridges the card game with the games' gym leader concept, making it appealing to both competitive players and narrative enthusiasts. First edition copies hold particular appeal for those building comprehensive Gym Challenge collections.
