Gym Challenge arrived in 2000 as one of the final sets from the original Base Set era, introducing Pokémon trainers as card subjects for the first time. The set captured players' imaginations by featuring gym leaders alongside their signature creatures, bridging the trading card game with the beloved video games and anime. This thematic innovation made Gym Challenge a landmark release that collectors still cherish today. Blaine's Ponyta showcases the hot-headed gym leader with his iconic fire-type companion, rendered in the vibrant illustration style that defined the era. Trainer cards featuring recognizable characters hold particular appeal, especially those pairing famous leaders with their most emblematic Pokémon. This card remains sought after by both Gym Challenge enthusiasts and fans of Blaine's character.
