Gym Challenge arrived in 2000 as one of the final sets before the Pokémon Trading Card Game's transition to its modern era. Named after the gym leader structure from the games, this set brought beloved characters like Blaine into the spotlight as card protagonists rather than mere flavor text. Collectors remember Gym Challenge for its nostalgic appeal and scarcity, having seen relatively limited print runs compared to the earliest base set releases. Blaine's Dodrio captures the volcanic gym leader alongside his three-headed flying companion. The card showcases the artist's interpretation of this classic Pokémon, making it a natural draw for fans of both Blaine's character and the evolutionary line. Dodrio enthusiasts and Gym Challenge collectors actively seek out cards from this leader-focused set.
