The Gym Challenge set, released in 2000, brought Pokémon's Trading Card Game back to its Japanese roots by introducing America's collectors to the Gym Leaders concept. This era marked a transitional moment in the hobby, bridging the explosive early popularity of Base Set with the increasingly sophisticated set design that would follow. Gym Challenge remains a foundational set for players and collectors seeking iconic early-era cards with substantial gameplay and nostalgic appeal. Lt. Surge's Raticate showcases one of the Gym Leaders central to the series, rendered with the dynamic artwork characteristic of the set's best offerings. Collectors seek this card for its connection to both the Pokémon TCG's competitive history and the beloved Gym Leaders arc, making it a natural centerpiece for themed collections or anyone building out their Gym Challenge holdings.
