Gym Challenge arrived in 2000 as a defining set for the Pokémon Trading Card Game's second generation. It introduced Gym Leader cards tied to the canonical trainers from the video games, marking a creative evolution beyond the base set formula. The set's nostalgic appeal and strategic gameplay made it formative for collectors who grew up with the franchise during its cultural peak. Erika's Bellsprout showcases one of Kanto's most recognizable gym leaders and her grass-type Pokémon. Trainer cards featuring specific leaders and their associated teams became instantly collectible, and Erika's cards remain popular among players and collectors alike. The artwork captures the gentle, botanical aesthetic central to both the character and her Pokémon.
