Gym Challenge arrived in 2000 as part of the original Pokemon Trading Card Game's formative years, when the hobby was experiencing explosive growth. This set continued the Gym Leaders theme introduced in its predecessor, featuring Trainers from Kanto's eight gyms as protagonists rather than obstacles. The set remains iconic for capturing the early anime's spirit and delivering sought-after Trainer cards alongside solid Pokemon offerings. Brock's Graveler represents the Rock-type specialist gym leader's partnership with his evolution line. The card exemplifies Gym Challenge's appeal—it combines competitive playability with nostalgic artwork that resonates with fans of the original series. Collectors value these gym-specific Pokemon cards as essential pieces of the set's thematic identity.
