Signature comparison
This card. The signature as cropped from the slab photo (front).
Below, the known examples Crown compared it with. Examples with stronger proof (signed in front of staff, or certified by an independent authenticator) carry the most weight.
Feature by feature
| Feature | This card | Known examples | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overall form and proportions | Abbreviated two-part signature. An angular zigzag 'M' with a small trailing hook, then a gap, then a large looped 'P' running into a 'g/y'-type descender and a crossed 't' ending in a long rightward stroke. | R1, R3, R7 and R8 show the same two-cluster structure with the same zigzag M, looped P, descender and long t-crossbar. R4 and R6 are more compressed versions. | Match |
| Slant and baseline | Moderate right slant with a roughly level baseline (the signature is written along the card's left edge and rotated in the crop). | Same right slant and level-to-slightly-rising baseline across R1–R8. | Match |
| Letter construction | M formed as a tall first downstroke followed by sharp up-down peaks. P has a tall stem and an open rounded bowl. A descender loop follows, then a 't' with a crossbar. | Identical construction in R1, R3, R5, R7 and R8. The P bowl size varies (smaller in R4 and R6). | Match |
| Connecting strokes | The M connects into a short trailing hook. The P, descender and t run in one connected or near-connected stroke sequence. | Same connection pattern in R1, R3, R7 and R8. | Match |
| Starting and ending strokes | The M starts with a quick lead-in. The terminal t-crossbar is extended and appears to taper at the end. | The extended t-crossbar terminal appears in R1, R3, R7 and R8. Starts are similarly quick. | Match |
| Line quality and speed | The visible strokes appear fluid and fast, with no obvious tremor or hesitation at this resolution. | Fluid, fast lines throughout the references. | Match |
| Pen pressure pattern | Some variation in ink density between downstrokes and connectors. Heavier on the M and P stems. | Similar heavier stems and lighter connectors, especially R1 and R8. | Natural variation |
| Spacing | A clear gap between the M cluster and the P cluster. | The same gap appears in all references. | Match |
| Flourishes and underlines | No underline. The extended t-crossbar serves as the terminal flourish. | The same in all references. | Match |
| Placement and size | Signed in blue marker, written vertically along the left margin and overlapping the artwork, at moderate size. | Reference crops are horizontal on the artwork. Orientation within the card cannot be determined from the crops alone. Ink color is mixed (blue in R1, R3 and R8; black or dark in others). | Not assessable |
Examiner notes
Our item is a 2021 Nintendopes Stickers Open Edition artist auto (No. 42a). R2–R8 are from the same set and likely the same signing period, so they are the most directly comparable. R1, a Magic Marker Art Horrorible Kids Series 9 auto, is a close contemporary. No era-driven variation needs explaining; the differences seen are ordinary signing-to-signing variation.
How Crown authenticates autographs: the signature is compared with known examples gathered from Crown's own authenticated cards, independent authenticators and public listings, measured by software, examined by an AI forensic model, and signed off by Crown Grading staff. The decision above is Crown's.
