Topps Chrome Update Series arrived in 2022 as the modern continuation of a lineage stretching back to 1997, when Chrome first revolutionized baseball cards with its chromium technology and bold visual treatments. The 2022 update set captured late-season rookies and traded players, making it essential for collectors building contemporary collections. Purple Refractors remained among the most sought parallels, their prismatic finish creating depth and visual appeal that basic versions simply couldn't match. Oneil Cruz represents the kind of young talent that drives the hobby forward. As a rookie emerging onto the MLB stage, his card appealed to prospect enthusiasts and those betting on future stardom. The refractor technology transforms the photography into something dynamic—catching light differently with each viewing angle, which is precisely why collectors covet these parallel versions over standard releases.
