Signature comparison
This card. The signature as cropped from the slab photo (front).
Below, the known examples Crown compared it with. Examples with stronger proof (signed in front of staff, or certified by an independent authenticator) carry the most weight.
Feature by feature
| Feature | This card | Known examples | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overall form and proportions | Compact two-part signature: a tall J, a short separator, then a compressed 'Nocd'-like surname about as tall as the J. | R1, R2, R3, R6 and R7 show the same two-part 'J-Nocd' structure with similar height ratios. R5 and R8 (2022) are more legible and evenly proportioned. | Match |
| Slant and baseline | Slight right slant with a roughly level baseline that rises a little at the terminal ascender. | The 2025 references show a similar mild right slant and level-to-rising baseline. R7 is slightly more upright. | Match |
| Letter construction – J | Vertical J stem with a lower hook curling left and up. | Every 2025 reference shows a J stem ending in a leftward lower hook. R7's J is more 'S'-like and R1's has a longer stem. | Natural variation |
| Letter construction – surname | N built with an entry hook into a looped, rounded form, followed by small rounded o/c forms and a closing loop into a tall final ascender (reads as 'Nocd'). | R1, R2, R6 and R7 show the same looped N, compressed o-c and tall final 'l/d' ascender. R5 and R8 show the earlier legible 'Noel'. | Match |
| Connecting strokes / separator | A short dash-like mark between the J and the N. | Separator appears as a dot or short dash: R1, R3 and R6 show a dot or dash, R5 a dot, R8 a dash. R2 and R7 run closer to connected. | Match |
| Starting and ending strokes | J begins with a firm downstroke from the top. The signature ends with a tall final upstroke that descends with a slight tail. | The same finishing ascender with a downward tail appears in R1, R2, R6 and R7. | Match |
| Line quality and speed | Fluid, confident strokes with no visible tremor or hesitation at this resolution. | The 2025 references show similar fast, fluid execution. | Match |
| Pen pressure pattern | Fairly even marker-width line with some density variation in the loops. | Similar even-width blue paint/sharpie line in the on-card references. Pressure detail is limited by photo resolution. | Not assessable |
| Spacing | Tight letter spacing in the surname with a modest gap after the J. | Consistent with R1, R2, R6 and R7. | Match |
| Flourishes and underlines | None. | None in any reference. | Match |
| Placement and size | Across the lower image area, above the 'TOPPS CERTIFIED AUTOGRAPH ISSUE' line and serial number. Blue ink. | R7 (same set) and other 2025 Topps on-card autos show similar placement and blue ink. | Match |
Examiner notes
Ours is on a 2025 Topps Chrome Rookie Autographs Green Logofractor (49/99), so it is a 2024-25 rookie-era on-card signature. R1, R2, R3, R6 and R7 are 2025 Topps issues from the same era and are the most relevant comparisons. R7 is the same base set (RA-JN). R5 (2022 Bowman Chrome) and R8 (2022 Pro Debut) are prospect-era signatures. They are more legible ('J.Noel' with an upright, clearly formed N-o-e-l), which shows the signature has since compressed into the faster 'J-Nocd' style. R4 (signed baseball) is undated and on a curved textured surface.
How Crown authenticates autographs: the signature is compared with known examples gathered from Crown's own authenticated cards, independent authenticators and public listings, measured by software, examined by an AI forensic model, and signed off by Crown Grading staff. The decision above is Crown's.
