Pokémon Destined Rivals arrived in 2025 as a set focused on iconic trainer-Pokémon partnerships throughout the franchise. The era marked a renewed collector interest in character-driven themes rather than pure competitive utility. This reverse holo release strategy gave the set extended appeal, offering alternative aesthetics to standard editions while maintaining accessibility for players and casual collectors alike. Misty's Gyarados represents one of the anime's most memorable character moments—the transformation of her reluctant Magikarp into a powerful force. The reverse holo treatment elevates the card's visual appeal, making it a natural centerpiece for fans of the Cerulean City Gym Leader and collectors who value the emotional storytelling woven throughout Pokémon's history.
