Gym Challenge arrived in 2000 as the fourth expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, bringing gym leader-themed decks and mechanics to the hobby during its first major boom. The set captured players' imagination by featuring trainers as central characters rather than passive supporters, deepening the connection between the card game and the beloved video games and animated series that drove the phenomenon. Blaine's Charmander represents the fire-type gym leader's influence on the set, pairing the iconic starter Pokémon with Blaine's personality and battle style. Collectors appreciate this card for its connection to both the character and the Pokémon, making it a natural inclusion for anyone building a complete Gym Challenge collection or focusing on classic Charmander variants.
