Sword & Shield Black Star Promos represent a pivotal moment in modern Pokemon collecting. Released alongside the TCG's generation eight launch in 2020, these exclusives became immediately sought after by players and collectors. The Cosmos Holo treatment—a unique full-art sparkle pattern—set these promos apart visually and helped define the aesthetic of early SwSh collecting. Grookey is the Grass-type starter from the Galar region, making it one of three iconic first partners collectors pursued from this promo series. Its cheerful, mischievous personality captured in the artwork exemplifies the charm that drew many collectors back to the hobby during 2020's pandemic-driven resurgence. Early starter promos remain foundational cards for complete set builders.
