Signature comparison
This card. The signature as cropped from the slab photo (front).
Below, the known examples Crown compared it with. Examples with stronger proof (signed in front of staff, or certified by an independent authenticator) carry the most weight.
Feature by feature
| Feature | This card | Known examples | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overall form and proportions | Two-line stacked 'Dee' over 'Baker'. A tall looped lowercase-style 'd' leads two small looped 'e's. 'Baker' sits below, slightly offset to the right. | R2 and R3 show the same stacked arrangement with the same proportions. R1, R6 and R7 put the same elements on one line. | Match |
| Slant and baseline | Moderate right slant. The baseline of 'Baker' rises slightly toward the end. | Right slant and a gently rising finish appear in R1, R3, R6 and R7. | Match |
| Letter construction – 'Dee' | The 'd' is a single fluid loop with a tall ascender angled to the right, followed by two narrow looped 'e's made in one continuous motion. | The same 'd' plus two-loop 'ee' construction is clear in R1, R2, R3, R5, R6 and R7. | Match |
| Letter construction – 'Baker' | Tall 'B' upstroke with a looped lower bowl running into 'a'. The 'k' has a looped upper element. The 'e' is small and the 'r' is an abbreviated terminal. | The B, a, k construction matches R2 and R3 closely, and is also visible in R1, R6 and R7. The abbreviated, trailing 'er' ending is typical. | Match |
| Connecting strokes | 'Dee' is continuous. 'Baker' is mostly connected, with a lift around the 'k' consistent with the references. | Similar connection pattern and similar lift points in R1, R3 and R7. | Match |
| Starting and ending strokes | Starts with a quick entry into the 'd'. Ends with a tapering, flicked 'r'. | Tapered ending flicks appear in R1, R2, R3 and R7. In some references the ending is extended into a longer horizontal tail. | Natural variation |
| Line quality and speed | Strokes appear fluent, with smooth curves and no visible tremor at this resolution. | The references are similarly fast and fluent. | Match |
| Pen pressure pattern | Some width and density variation is visible in the blue ink, particularly at turns. | Different pens and surfaces make direct comparison limited. Variation is broadly similar. | Not assessable |
| Spacing | Compact letter spacing within words, with clear line separation between 'Dee' and 'Baker'. | Consistent with R2 and R3. | Match |
| Flourishes and underlines | No underline or extra flourish. | No underline in any reference. Inscriptions (character names) appear on some but not on ours, which is expected on a manufacturer card. | Natural variation |
| Placement and size | Placed in the designated lower-left autograph area of the card, sized to fit that space. | Not directly comparable, since the references are on photos and other items. Card-space constraints explain the smaller, stacked format. | Natural variation |
Examiner notes
Ours is on a 2021 Topps Star Wars Masterwork card (Crosshair, The Bad Batch era), so it was likely signed around 2020-2021. R2 (Mandalorian, Frog Lady inscription) and R3 (Bad Batch inscription) are from the same 2020s Star Wars period, and both use the same stacked 'Dee / Baker' layout as ours. R1, R5, R6 and R7 (Phineas and Ferb, Looney Tunes, Space Jam/Taz) come from the 2010s to early 2020s. They tend to put 'Dee Baker' on one line, but the letter construction is the same, so layout differences read as surface and space adaptation rather than a different hand.
How Crown authenticates autographs: the signature is compared with known examples gathered from Crown's own authenticated cards, independent authenticators and public listings, measured by software, examined by an AI forensic model, and signed off by Crown Grading staff. The decision above is Crown's.
