Signature comparison
This card. The signature as cropped from the slab photo (front).
Below, the known examples Crown compared it with. Examples with stronger proof (signed in front of staff, or certified by an independent authenticator) carry the most weight.
Feature by feature
| Feature | This card | Known examples | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overall form and proportions | Abbreviated 'Luci C' form: a tall looped L, compact connected 'uci', then a large open C with a looping terminal stroke. A character inscription 'Nami!' sits below and to the right. | The same abbreviated 'Luci C' plus looping terminal construction appears throughout R1–R8. The two-line layout of signature over a character name with exclamation matches R1, R3, R5, R6 and R7. | Match |
| Slant and baseline | Strong rising baseline, roughly 25–35° upward, with the inscription also angled upward. Right-leaning slant. | Rightward slant in all references. Baselines run mostly horizontal to mildly rising on Funko windows (R1, R6, R8). The steeper rise on ours is plausibly due to the narrow available space on the card face. | Natural variation |
| Letter construction | L begins with an upstroke into a tall upper loop and descends into a lower loop that runs into 'u'. 'uci' is small and rounded. The C is open and large, followed by a looped 'h/g'-like terminal form. i-dot is rendered as a short dash. | The L loop structure matches R1, R5, R6 and R8 closely. The large C with a looped tail-off matches R1, R3, R6 and R7. Dash-style i-dots appear in R1, R5, R6 and R7. | Match |
| Connecting strokes | L–u–c–i are connected in a single movement. The C is separate, with the terminal flourish continuous from it. | The same connection pattern is seen in R1, R5, R6 and R8: 'Luci' is connected and the C-flourish is written as a second unit. | Match |
| Starting and ending strokes | Entry appears to be a lead-in upstroke into the L loop. The terminal ends with a tapered exit. 'Nami!' ends with an exclamation and a small heart. | Lead-in upstroke to the L is seen in R1, R3 and R8. Exclamation endings on inscriptions are seen in R1, R2, R5, R6 and R7. Hearts are added in R5, R7 and R8. | Match |
| Line quality and speed | At this resolution strokes appear fluid with smooth curves. No obvious tremor, patching or blunt stops are visible. Width is fairly even, consistent with a felt/marker tip. | Fast, fluid paint-pen strokes throughout. | Match |
| Pen pressure pattern | Marker on a coated card gives fairly even width; slight density variation is visible in the loops. | Paint pen on vinyl gives uniform opaque width. Pressure variation is not well assessable in either. | Not assessable |
| Spacing | Compact 'uci', a wider gap before the C, and the inscription offset beneath the signature. | Same compact 'uci' and gap before the C (R1, R5, R6, R8). | Match |
| Flourishes and embellishments | Teal heart after 'Nami!'. There are also small red hearts on the card face; it is unclear whether these are hand-drawn or part of the printed art. | Hand-drawn hearts appear in R5 (below inscription), R7 and R8. | Natural variation |
| Placement and size | Placed diagonally across the lower-right art and text box, at a large scale relative to the card. | Placed large across the window over the figure on Funkos. The surface differs, but bold, prominent placement is consistent. | Natural variation |
Examiner notes
Our signature is on a 2022 One Piece Card Game Super Pre-Release Nami (ST01-007), so it was signed in 2022 or later. All eight references are Funko Pop signings (MHA Ochaco #251, One Piece Nami #328) from convention-circuit listings, plausibly c. 2019–2024, with R3/R6 tied to a GalaxyCon signing. They appear to be broadly contemporaneous with ours, so era drift should be minimal. The main differences are surface and pen: references are paint pen on a smooth vinyl/PET window, while ours is on a coated card with a finer-tipped teal marker.
How Crown authenticates autographs: the signature is compared with known examples gathered from Crown's own authenticated cards, independent authenticators and public listings, measured by software, examined by an AI forensic model, and signed off by Crown Grading staff. The decision above is Crown's.
