Signature comparison
This card. The signature as cropped from the slab photo (front).
Below, the known examples Crown compared it with. Examples with stronger proof (signed in front of staff, or certified by an independent authenticator) carry the most weight.
Feature by feature
| Feature | This card | Known examples | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overall form and proportions | Three-part sequence: a large open heart at left, then a tall looped 'S' with compressed 'tephi'-type letters, then a 'Y' with a long descending loop. No character inscription. | Every reference shows the same heart + 'Stephi/Steph' + 'Y' sequence. Most add a '-Robin' or '-Olivier' inscription below; R4 has none. | Match |
| Heart construction | Pointed, angular V-shaped heart with open lobes, drawn as a separate unit left of the S and roughly equal in height to the S. | R3, R5, R6, R7 and R8 show the same angular V-heart, also placed left of and level with the S. R2's heart is rounder. R4's is a quick double-stroke version. | Match |
| Letter construction – 'S'/'Steph' and 'Y' | Tall S with a loop, followed by small cramped lowercase letters ending in a high stroke. The Y is made with a short cup and a long downward stem that loops back. | R3, R6, R7 and R8 show the same tall S with small trailing letters and an 'i'-type ending. The Y is drawn as a cup with a long descender and a return loop or hook toward the right. | Match |
| Slant and baseline | Generally upright to slightly right-leaning. The signature runs diagonally downward, with the Y set below and right of the S. | Same stacked layout in all references: S on top, Y below and to the right, and an inscription lowest when present. | Match |
| Connecting strokes | The heart is detached. The S flows into the lowercase letters, and the Y is a separate unit. | Same pattern: detached heart, connected 'Stephi', separate Y. | Match |
| Starting and ending strokes | Strokes appear to start and end tapered, with no obvious blunt dots at this resolution. | Tapered entries and exits are typical, especially in R3, R6 and R7. | Natural variation |
| Line quality and speed | Strokes look fluid with smooth curves. No visible tremor or hesitation at this image resolution. | Fluid, fast strokes in the references. R4 is very rapid and sloppy. | Match |
| Pen pressure pattern | Purple marker with some width variation in the loops. Fine pressure detail cannot be resolved at this scan quality. | Marker or paint pen on plastic shows mostly uniform width. Pressure is not well assessable on any of the references. | Not assessable |
| Spacing | The lowercase letters are compressed, probably because of limited card space. | The Funko windows allow wider spacing, but R3 and R7 show similarly compressed 'tephi' letters. | Natural variation |
| Flourishes and inscription | No character inscription, and no underline. | Most references carry '-Robin', '-Nico Robin' or '-Olivier'. R4 has no inscription. | Natural variation |
| Placement and size | Placed across the center of the artwork, over the character's torso, and filling most of the card width. | Placed across the figure's face and torso through the window. That is the same habit of signing over the character. | Match |
Examiner notes
Our card is the One Piece TCG ST01-008 Super Pre-Release promo (2022), so the signature can be no earlier than late 2022 and is most likely from a 2022–2024 convention signing. The references are Funko Pops: Nico Robin #327 (R1, R2, R4, R6), Robin Orobi #1475 (R3, about 2023) and Olivier Mira Armstrong #1178 (R5, R7, R8, about 2022). All fall in the same modern era, so a major era-driven change in signature style is not expected. Differences are mainly due to surface (glossy card stock versus a curved plastic window), pen type and signing speed.
How Crown authenticates autographs: the signature is compared with known examples gathered from Crown's own authenticated cards, independent authenticators and public listings, measured by software, examined by an AI forensic model, and signed off by Crown Grading staff. The decision above is Crown's.
