Upper Deck's 2018 Goodwin Champions set brought a modern sensibility to the classic Goodwin & Company baseball card tradition dating back to 1888. This release celebrated athletic achievement across multiple sports with artistic renderings rather than photography, appealing to collectors seeking something visually distinct from standard sports card offerings. The set became known for its broad scope and elegant aesthetic during an era when trading cards were experiencing renewed collector interest. Serena Williams represents the set's ambition to honor champions beyond traditional sports boundaries. Her inclusion acknowledges her status as one of tennis's greatest competitors and most influential athletes of her generation. Collectors appreciate this card for capturing a pivotal figure in sports history within a thoughtfully designed, non-traditional card release.
