SkyBox Impact launched in 1997 as a premium football release emphasizing dynamic photography and bold design. The set captured the era's shift toward more aggressive, visually striking cards that stood apart from traditional designs. Impact became known for its artistic presentation and helped define mid-90s football card aesthetics during a period when the hobby embraced experimentation and innovation. Zach Thomas entered the league as one of the most impactful defensive players of his generation, and this early card documents his emergence. Collectors appreciate Impact cards of star rookies and young stars for their distinctive visual treatment, which has aged well compared to more conventional issues from the same period. Thomas's prominence in the secondary made his early cards natural targets for fans building collections around his Hall of Fame-caliber career.
