FILM NOTES

Released in 1999, Pokémon: The First Movie arrived at the height of a cultural phenomenon that had swept from Game Boy screens and trading cards into television and, finally, cinemas. For a generation of young fans, it was a first taste of their favorite world rendered on the big screen, and its theatrical trailer helped build the anticipation that made the film an event. Decades later, that early promotional footage remains a nostalgic touchstone from an era when animation and franchise storytelling were reaching an enormous new audience.

This cell features Tentacruel, one of the many recognizable creatures that populated the Pokémon universe. Holding a physical 35mm frame from the trailer connects you directly to how audiences first glimpsed the film. Unlike a digital image, this is a tangible piece of the projected print itself, a small artifact carrying the texture and history of its moment.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
