Released in 1990, Gremlins 2: The New Batch arrived as a sequel that embraced its own absurdity, trading the cozy small-town setting of the original for a gleaming high-tech Manhattan skyscraper. Director Joe Dante leaned into comedy and self-aware satire, filling the film with creative creature effects and anarchic humor. It has since earned a devoted following for its willingness to break the rules and poke fun at the very idea of sequels, standing apart as a bold and unusually inventive entry in its era.

The image of Gizmo tied up captures the vulnerable heart of the film, the small Mogwai around whom so much of the story turns.
