Released by Paramount Pictures in May 1986 and directed by Tony Scott, Top Gun became one of the defining blockbusters of the decade, pairing Tom Cruise's star charisma with aerial photography that had never been achieved at that scale. The film revitalized naval aviation recruitment and cemented the high-concept action picture as Hollywood's dominant commercial form for years to come.

These three frames capture Tom Cruise as Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in interior settings. The first two are near-duplicate frames of a tight portrait — Maverick's face tilted upward with characteristic intensity.
