Released by Paramount Pictures in May 1986 and directed by Tony Scott, Top Gun became one of the defining blockbusters of the decade. Starring Tom Cruise as Lt. Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell, the film's kinetic aerial photography — shot in cooperation with the U.S. Navy — set a new standard for action cinematography and made the F-14 Tomcat an icon of popular culture.

These three consecutive frames capture a carrier-deck launch from a low angle, the aircraft's delta-wing silhouette framed against a pale blue sky. The intense white exhaust plume dominates the lower portion of each frame, conveying raw thrust. The optical soundtrack strip running below the image area is clearly intact, consistent with a theatrical release print.
