Released by Paramount Pictures in May 1986 and directed by Tony Scott, Top Gun became one of the defining blockbusters of the decade, pairing Tom Cruise with producer duo Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer at the height of their commercial power. The film's aerially shot F-14 sequences and synth-driven soundtrack made it a cultural touchstone and a landmark in high-concept Hollywood filmmaking.
