FILM NOTES

Released by Paramount Pictures in May 1986, Top Gun became the highest-grossing film of that year and a defining cultural artifact of the Reagan era. Directed by Tony Scott and produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, it launched Tom Cruise to superstardom and set the template for the high-gloss action blockbuster. Its soundtrack, aerial photography, and MTV-influenced editing style reshaped Hollywood's commercial filmmaking language for the decade that followed.

These three frames capture the film's main title sequence, displaying the iconic TOP GUN logo — bold red lettering flanked by stylized wings and a star — alongside the principal cast billing for Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis and the Simpson/Bruckheimer production credit. The center frame carries a distinctive circular light artifact. All three frames originate from the black-field title reel, making them a clean typographic record of the film's opening identity.
