FILM NOTES

Released by Paramount Pictures in May 1986 and produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, Top Gun became the highest-grossing film of that year and a defining cultural touchstone of the decade. Directed by Tony Scott, it launched Tom Cruise to superstardom and cemented the Bruckheimer formula of kinetic action, rock soundtrack, and aspirational Americana. Shot on Eastman color negative stock, the 35mm print remains a benchmark of late-analogue Hollywood craft.

These three consecutive frames capture the opening title card sequence, displaying the iconic TOP GUN logo — rendered in bold red with its distinctive star-and-wings emblem — alongside the principal cast billing of Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis and the Don Simpson/Jerry Bruckheimer production credit. The optical soundtrack strip is clearly visible along the lower edge, and the Eastman stock edge-code is legible on the base.
