Released by Paramount Pictures in May 1986 and directed by Tony Scott, Top Gun became one of the defining blockbusters of the decade, pairing Tom Cruise with a soundtrack, aerial photography, and a Don Simpson/Jerry Bruckheimer production ethos that reshaped the summer-movie landscape.
