Released by Paramount Pictures in May 1986, Top Gun was directed by Tony Scott and produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. The film became a defining cultural artifact of the decade, launching Tom Cruise to superstardom and reigniting public interest in naval aviation.
