FILM NOTES

Released by Paramount Pictures in May 1986 and directed by Tony Scott, Top Gun became one of the defining blockbusters of the decade. Shot largely on location at NAS Miramar and aboard active carriers, the film launched Tom Cruise to superstardom and set a template for the high-gloss action picture. Its cultural footprint — from the soundtrack to the flight-suit aesthetic — remains enormous.

These three consecutive frames capture a tight overhead angle on a male character in a white shirt holding an ice-filled glass, likely during one of the film's bar or social scenes. The repeated imagery across all three frames indicates a near-static moment in the action, preserving a quiet, intimate beat between the film's aerial set pieces.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
