FILM NOTES

Top Gun was released by Paramount Pictures in the summer of 1986, directed by Tony Scott. The film arrived at a moment when the American blockbuster was fully embracing spectacle and style, and it became a defining cultural artifact of the decade, reshaping military recruitment, popular music, and action cinema simultaneously. Its 35mm photography captured both aerial sequences and character moments with a saturated, high-contrast look that remains immediately recognizable.

These three frames center on Lt. Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, depicted reclined and wearing his characteristic aviator sunglasses, blue clothing visible across all three exposures. A second figure appears partially above him in each frame, though Iceman remains the dominant presence throughout. The near-identical composition across the trio suggests a brief, held moment from a single scene, offering collectors a rare sustained look at one of the film's most compelling figures.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
