FILM NOTES

Top Gun arrived in the summer of 1986 from Paramount Pictures, directed by Tony Scott and produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. The film defined a particular strain of Reagan-era American cinema, blending military spectacle with pop music and a glossy visual style that proved enormously influential. Its commercial success reshaped the blockbuster landscape and cemented Tom Cruise as a major star.

This cell, titled Explosion, captures Nick "Goose" Bradshaw silhouetted against fire, smoke, and debris across three closely related frames. The sequence documents one of the film's most consequential moments, with each frame offering a slightly different exposure of the same chaotic instant. Together they preserve a rare, continuous fragment of a scene that carries significant dramatic weight within the story.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
