Top Gun was released by Paramount Pictures in the summer of 1986, directed by Tony Scott and produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. The film arrived at a moment when the American blockbuster was defined by spectacle, style, and soundtrack, and it delivered all three. Its portrait of naval aviators at the elite TOPGUN training program made it one of the defining cultural artifacts of the decade, cementing the careers of its cast and influencing action filmmaking for years to come.
