Top Gun was released by Paramount Pictures in the summer of 1986 and became one of the defining blockbusters of the decade, cementing Tom Cruise as a major star and reviving public interest in naval aviation. Directed by Tony Scott, the film's kinetic style and Jerry Bruckheimer production sensibility shaped the look of Hollywood action cinema for years to come.
