Top Gun was released by Paramount Pictures in May 1986 and became one of the defining commercial films of the decade, cementing Tom Cruise as a major star while reshaping the American action film around music, spectacle, and military pageantry. Directed by Tony Scott, it remains a cultural landmark of its era.
