FILM NOTES

Top Gun was released by Paramount Pictures in the summer of 1986, directed by Tony Scott and produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. The film arrived at a particular moment in American popular culture, blending military spectacle with music-video aesthetics in a way that defined the blockbuster sensibility of its decade. It remains one of the most commercially significant films of the 1980s and a defining credit in Tom Cruise's early career.

This cell, titled Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell, captures Tom Cruise in a sustained close-up sequence, Maverick leaning forward in an interior setting marked by the characteristic striped light of venetian blinds falling across the background. The three frames represent a single continuous shot with minimal movement between them, preserving a quiet, concentrated moment with the character in near-isolation.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
